China invests in the construction of a transport and logistics hub in the Almaty agglomeration

On February 19, in Urumqi, a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Communist Party of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, Mr. Ma Xingrui, received the Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) National Company JSC, Nurlan Sauranbayev.

Mr. Ma Xingrui noted the steady growth in rail transportation between Kazakhstan and China, which reached a record volume of 32 million tons in 2024.

During the meeting, it was noted that all issues discussed in previous meetings had been fully implemented, including the construction of second tracks on the Dostyk-Moiynty section and an increase in the volume of transit cargo.

Plans for 2025-2026 were outlined, including the creation of a transport and logistics hub in the Almaty agglomeration, the development of the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing, and the expedited construction of the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway line. The need to establish a mixed commission, with the participation of government agencies, for the general coordination of cargo transportation across all modes of transport was also emphasized.

During the meeting, the XUAR leadership decided to invest 1 billion yuan in the construction of a transport and logistics hub in Kazakhstan.

Responsible officials were appointed for all discussed matters, with strict deadlines set for implementation.
